ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice focuses on digital character animation but is enriched by the wide range of materials I use for illustration and stop motion animation. The materiality and textures of paper, paint, clay, ink, pastel, color pencil, and crayon are all relevant to my digital practice, where I like to play with recreating the look and feel of physical materials. My animation style is inspired by the slapstick absurdity of classic cartoons. I am intrigued by strange and bizarre art and animation. Some exciting artists, illustrators, and experimental animators I am influenced by are Sarina Nihei, Raman Djfari, Seo Kim, Jaun Lage, Jonni Phillips, and Nelly Michenaud to name a few. These artist’s works have a peculiar inane sense of humor that draws me to them. Humor is intrinsic to my art style and makes its way into everything I create.
